Meine Sports-Philosophie (Sportunterricht)

My Philosophy of Sport

I think sport is important to me because it gives me a change every day. I need sport because I can not sit in school the whole day then coming home, watching TV and doing nothing.
Sport teaches me teamwork. If you are doing a team sport like ice hockey and you have a practise or a game, then it doesn’t matter of you don’t like a person on your team. As long as you are on the ice you play as a team not as individual players; every teammate is equal.
The most obvious benefit is that you promote your health. I think by keeping yourself fit and healthy. Sport is a good form of preventative medicine, physically and mentally. If you do sport you are generally fitter and in much more alert. I recognize this when I had practise and come to school after. It helps me to be ready for everything I want to accomplish in the day.
Sport teaches me the benefits of self-discipline, teamwork, mutual respect and fair play. To learn more about the benefits of self discipline was one of the reasons to make two exchange years here in Canada.
I have always big feelings on competitions. I live my sport. Sometimes there are tears of happiness, sometimes tears of sadness. Whatever it brings, I am always really emotional.
One of my biggest motivation is my Grandfather. He used to come and watch every game since I play hockey. He died a few years ago and on this day I swore that I am always playing for him. To motivate myself I mostly listen to music on my iPod. A few minutes before the match, I am silent concentrating and preparing.
Sport is a big business today. Sport has always been a popular recreational activity, but now it is much, much more than that. Underpinned by the rising profile of sports stars, rapid changes in technology and increasingly sophisticated customer expectations, sport has become big business. It is played out by some of the world’s biggest celebrities, playing in some of the best leagues and biggest events, and watched by millions of fervent supporters. I can say: Where sport is, business will follow.
Sport is positive when you win, when you see smiling and happy faces around you. Sport is positive when you can share it with friends and you can compete with others.
Sport can be negative when younger athletes see mature athletes playing unfair, doing drugs or just not following the rules.
